Department of Wood & Furniture Design and Technology (WFDT)
Professor Dr. George Mantanis was born in Mytilene, Greece, in 1966. He grew up in the village Stipsi of Lesvos. He graduated with honours from the High School of Kalloni (Lesvos) in 1984. Dr. Mantanis has being working at TEI of Thessaly (formerly TEI of Larissa) since year 2002, while he was a member of the core group (under Prof. I. Kakaras) which academically set up and organised this new WFDT Dept. that is unique in the Greek academia.
He possesses a diploma in Forestry (Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki) from 1989 with a specialisation in wood technology, and also a doctorate degree (PhD) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI (USA) at the area of wood properties (1994). Dr. Mantanis has worked two years at the Forest Research Institute (FRI) of Thessaloniki, four years then in the industrial company ACM Wood Chemicals Plc (now Chimar Hellas SA) -at the R&D Dept (wood adhesives)- and one more year at the national Forest Service, before he joined the Faculty of the WFDT Dept. at TEI. The research work of Prof. George Mantanis is primarily concentrated on the properties of wood and wood products, incorporating more than 45 publications (journal papers + conference presentations), while he has almost 750 international citations. Today, he participates as the Co-Editor of the referred scientific journal Wood Material Science and Engineering; additionally, he serves as a reviewer in several scientific international journals.
